I’ve watched our culture shift and the influence of Christianity decline.  In his book, Battle Cry for a Generation, Ron Luce, of Teen Mania, published these sobering statistics: The Builder Generation (1910 – 1945) 65% claimed to be born again Baby Boomers (1946 – 1964) 35% claim to be born again Gen Xers (or Buster Generation) (1965 – 1980) 16% claim to be born again The Millennials (1981-2001) 4% claim to be born again Do you see the trend? 

When given the opportunity,the kids engaged in worship and had a genuine encounter with God. Later, when I asked the kids what they experienced, most of them said they felt “peace” or had a sense of comfort.

Have you ever noticed how the company we keep can shape who we become? On our farm, a funny little duck taught me this lesson in a way I’ll never forget. In “The Duck Who Thought She Was a Chicken: Choosing Wise Friends,” I share how one duck’s story reveals the surprising power of friendship—and why choosing the right companions can help us (and our children) grow into who we’re truly meant to be.

We have a duck who thinks she is a chicken! Why? Because she hangs out with the chickens. I fondly call them “the amigos.” She has been with them since birth.

The day after Sukkot, Feast of Tabernacles, our Jewish friends celebrate Simchat Torah with joyful dancing.  Simchat Torah means “Rejoicing in Torah.” They do this because they are starting a new cycle of the yearly Torah readings with Genesis. The day before, on the last day of Sukkot, they read the final portion of the Torah in Deuteronomy.

With promises of long life, joy, and guidance, it's a no-brainer to seek after wisdom. The book of Proverbs is a rich resource for doing just that.
