Discover the joy and guidance promised to those who find it!

We live in a world bursting with information - yet wisdom can still feel rare. Knowledge tells us how to make a living, but wisdom teaches us how to make a life. It's the steady voice that helps us navigate choices, relationships, and challenges. And God doesn't leave us guessing where to find it - He invites us to seek it, promising joy and guidance to those who do.
13 Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.
14 For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold.
15 Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left.
17 She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying.
18 Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.
Proverbs 3:13-18
With promises of joy, guidance, and a long, meaningful life, why wouldn’t we make wisdom a top priority? Thankfully, God has given us an entire book devoted to it - Proverbs. This treasure of ancient wisdom is packed with short, practical sayings that carry timeless biblical truths, principles, and promises. Rick Warren describes it perfectly: “God’s tweets are called The Book of Proverbs.”
The Family Challenge
Recently, I invited my middle-school-aged grandkids to read through Proverbs with me. Here's how we did it: Each day, we read 10 verses from the chapter that matches the date on the calendar. For example, on October 1st, we would read Proverbs 1:1-10; on October 2nd, Proverbs 2:1-10. The following month, we picked up where we left off - reading verses 11-20 of each chapter, continuing this way until we made our way through the whole book over three months.
A Practical Tip
Don’t wait for the "perfect" start date. I put this off far too long, waiting for the first day of a new month. My advice? JUST START – any day! You can begin right where you are and still make great progress.
We read on our own time, looking for a verse that stood out or might be a favorite from the reading. Then we would post our thoughts in a private GroupMe thread we'd created for the challenge.
For our next round, I am planning to encourage my grandkids to begin categorizing Proverbs by themes: health, obedience, respect, anger, drinking, envy, friends, fools, wealth, business, eating, giving, gossip, parents, evil, laziness – you name it! Proverbs has something to say about it.
